Sugar as a pup (about 10 weeks old). Sugar's mother was a proper Old Time Farm Shepherd; her daddy was a philandering Aussie/Heeler cross with a gleam in his eye and a bounce in his step. Sugar inherited more than her looks from her daddy.

Although they had (when this picture was taken) only known each other for about a week, half-sisters Sugar and Freckles quickly established the ground rules for the evening wrestling match.

Freckles. We were lucky to be given the chance to add this 10-month-old half-sister of our other dog to our brood in September, 2008. She's a real sweetheart.

Hans, the Keeshond. He was our dog in the '70s. A world traveler, he went with us throughout Europe. A pussycat in person, he was a snarling demon behind glass. Nobody messed with our van when Hans was on guard.
